Project Summary

Virtual healthcare supports patients in rural and remote (including Indigenous) communities. The COVID- 19 pandemic has resulted in rapid and widespread adoption of virtual care in these and other contexts, and clinicians will continue with hybrid care in the future. Our Virtual Clinical Learning Working Group identified a gap in patient-led education products for learners in healthcare professions. Building on our 2020 experience of developing a Podcast (https://the-listen.simplecast.com/episodes/s1-e1-rural-remote-virtual-care-meeting-the-patient-where-they-are) exploring the impact of virtual care on patients and it’s implications for educating our learners, this project will continue our partnership with patients, caregivers and learners to design products to support virtual care education of learners in healthcare professions. We will start by conducting interviews with patients, caregivers and learners and capture their perspectives. Through an iterative process, we will design the following teaching materials to address virtual care: five Podcasts, three student assessment scenarios, two case-based interactive scenarios, and two interactive presentations.
