Project Summary | Flexible Assessment “promotes self-regulated learning skills by allowing students to participate in normal instructor decisions” (Pacharn et al, 2013). One example of flexible assessment allows students to select the weights for the assessments in the course within ranges defined by the instructor (Rideout, 2018). Instructors in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems have been using this approach; however, some instructors are hesitant to try this approach, due to their perception that applying different weights to different assessments for different students using online surveys, Excel and the Canvas gradebook may increase instructor workload and/or present challenges in calculating final grades. This project aims to create a Canvas integration to simplify and streamline the process, to allow students to define their own weights for each assessment within ranges defined by the professor and apply those weights to their final grades. We hope this integration will encourage flexible assessment across the university. |
