Establishing an Interdisciplinary Human Rights Experiential Learning Program

In a time of intersecting crises such as global climate change, growing authoritarianism, and heightened social inequality, equipping students with the analytical and practical skills to address seemingly insurmountable challenges is essential. Underlying these challenges are foundational questions of Human Rights. Whether investigating climate induced migration, threats to civil liberties or access to clean drinking water, understanding the language of and policy responses from the field of Human Rights is central and essential. Currently, UBC offers several courses addressing these issues but lacks a connective Human Rights collective to support interdisciplinary learning and actions necessary to tackle these issues.
