Project Summary | For students, academics are central to their UBC experience. AMS Tutoring recognizes that many students require some learning assistance to achieve academic success. To assist them in meeting this goal, we provide academic support through our peer tutoring program. The difficult transition between high school and university is a challenge faced by many first year students, which is why we support them with a free drop-in tutoring service. But second-year can also be a difficult time, so we have expanded our program in the last two years to support second year students as well. The tutors providing this support also benefit from their experience with the service. They undergo training and acquire many transferable skills that will be assets to them in the future. The development of their teaching skills is especially valuable to those tutors who are interested in teaching as a career. While our service has experienced a great deal of growth and success over the past year, it still has the potential to grow and to improve the programs it offers students. We hope to acquire the funding to provide "more tutors" at drop-in tutoring and to improve the training we offer tutors. The TLEF grant can help us meet these goals without compromising our existing services. |
