Year 2: Summary

This project continues the student support service component of the successful Agora Learning Commons project initiated in 1999-2000 with the support of TLEF. Student co-ordination and maintenance services, as well as “storefront” peer mentoring, tutoring, career and computer support services have been instituted in the Agora. These are greatly valued; funding is needed to maintain these services for another year until they can be embedded in the culture and use of the area, with budget provided through student societies, sponsors or other means. UBC Career Services provides a dedicated part-time student Career Counselling Assistant for the area but funding is needed to support students filling the following part-time positions: The Agora Learning Commons Co-ordinator, Computer/Docking Port Assistant, Peer Counselling Assistant, and Learning Commons Maintenance Assistant. Theses positions, open to any UBC students, involved 5-10 hours of work per week during the winter 2000-2001 term.
