| Project Summary | The PACER project’s objectives are to provide pharmacy students with a simulated electronic medical record (EMR) patient cases database that can be used to solve drug therapy problems and document recommendations electronically. An EMR is a computer-based patient health record.(1) EMRs benefit practice settings where health care professionals collaborate to provide patient care by improving communication and efficiency among health care team members, reducing test duplication and adverse drug events, and positively impacting patients’ health outcomes and safety. In the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, students are introduced to EMRs in two courses: Technology in Healthcare (PHRM 161) and Institutional Practice Skills (PHRM 251). Currently, students do not have access to a populated EMR system and preceptors have reported that students lack the ability to effectively use an EMR to deliver and document patient care. 1) What is an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)?
