Project Summary | This project supports the further design, development, and implementation of “ROOTSS,” an innovative co-curricular program in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems to promote new-to-LFS students’ academic success, social integration, and overall wellbeing. ROOTSS enables students to connect with peers, staff, and faculty through activities including orientation programming, strategic academic check-ins, workshops, online Canvas modules, and social programming. Building upon the success of the LFS 100 course redesign project (supported by TLEF funds in 2018), and the early launch in June 2020, it leverages insights regarding first-year students’ transition to university, integrates with LFS 100 curriculum, and enhances peer learning and support. ROOTSS programming provides new-to-LFS students and senior student facilitators opportunities to grow their social and professional networks and practice skills to enhance their personal, professional and academic success. ROOTSS supports key priorities identified in the Faculty’s Action Plan: improving retention rates, and supporting student wellbeing and development. |
