Project Summary

We are building a course that examines the social and psychological predictors of physical and psychological health among Asian Canadian communities. We envision that this course will involve students learning how to be agents of change in society by empowering them to think comprehensively about how various determinants of health shape the experience of health in diasporic communities, and participate in the political process to effect positive societal change. This course will involve student-led multimedia productions, community engagement activities, as well as political engagement activities, based on psychological models of messaging and communication. Students who successfully complete this course should have a greater awareness of social justice issues involving community health, learn methodological skills that will prepare them for future community work, and have greater self-confidence as agents of change in society.
