| Project Summary | From three different angles, the project team developed the idea of establishing a focus on “German theatre” within the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies. Over a two-year period we would like to found a German student theatre group that will choose, rehearse and perform German plays (Aly O’Brian and Karin Lornsen), and link this activity with two new undergraduate course concepts: an undergraduate literature course on “German Theatre: Texts and Performances from the Baroque to the Present,” (Gaby Pailer, Germ 406, 2004/05), and an undergraduate culture-language course on “Producing and Performing a German Play,” (Caroline Rieger, Germ 408, 2005/06). This program will offer students of different faculties an activity of practice and creativity in German in addition to their language and literature courses. Further, the program will help close the gap between the German literature and language program. Funding applied for concerns the hiring of two Research Assistants as program organizers for the German theatre group as well as financial support for renting equipment, costumes, and rooms for the performances. |
