| Project Summary | Teaching clinical skills to health professional remains a challenging, expensive part of the curriculum. A fundamental element of clinical skills is the physical examination - or objective assessment. Medical students have reported low confidence in physical examination relating to musculoskeletal conditions in various publications. This research is supported by local experience. Therefore, we aim to improve and simplify the teaching of the musculoskeletal physical examination in an affordable, sustainable way by designing and then disseminating a DVD which demonstrates how this is done. The audio track will supplement the visuals and 'talk the student through' the process. Innovations include: (i) up front engagement of relevant stakeholders, (ii) targeting the DVD to the student population, (iii) embedding a truly multidisciplinary approach in the teaching, (iv) pioneering the use of injury mechanism TV footage within the DVD to bring this field of scholarship to life, (v) the UBC and Canadian approach to health professional training. |
