Project Summary | TLEF funding will support the development and implementation of our new Community Service-Learning (CSL) curriculum module, and related faculty and student capacity building activities to support this innovative effort in dental education at UBC. TLEF Funding will enable: (1) a series of capacity building workshops for dental faculty tutors and CSL module coordinators; (2) the provision of hands-on materials for six student groups to carry out their CSL projects and to produce and present their activities and posters to community stakeholders (students are currently working in partnership with three inner-city schools, one residential care facility, the Vancouver Native Health Society Dental Clinic, and the YWCA Crabtree Corner); and, (3) the development and implementation of an educational impact assessment that will enable us to study and understand how CSL impacts on dental student learning; community stakeholders' experiences, and how to evolve a sound and sustainable CSL educational curriculum for implementation within all years of dental education as of September 2007. |
