Project Summary | The expansion in the scope of pharmacy practice across Canada has brought the importance of pharmacists as leaders into sharp focus. It is vital that pharmacy graduates possess leadership knowledge and skills in this emerging landscape. UBC offers leadership courses for working professionals, graduate and business students. However, no courses focusing on leadership or leadership experiential opportunities beyond running for office in student organizations exist for pharmacy students. The new UBC entry-to-practice Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program, which began in 2015, requires new elective courses and has significantly expanded the experiential component, which places demand on the supply of sites. We will design, develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate a leadership course series, the Leadership Experience Applied to Pharmacy (“LEAP”), that will equip students with leadership knowledge and skills to embrace the opportunities and challenges in pharmacy practice, and help meet the elective course and experiential needs of the new Program. |
