Project Summary

We plan to create a collection of student-staged, videotaped scenarios to enhance awareness of PBL (problem based learning) for prospective and existing dental students, faculty and community. The scenarios will illustrate key lifelong skills acquired in problem based learning (i.e. communication; teamwork; feedback; problem solving; critical thinking; accountability). They will show the application of the PBL skills, not only in the regular tutorial setting but also in clinical and personal/community settings. The scenarios will have applications in the education and support of the students and faculty members of the Faculty of Dentistry in the following areas:

  • UBC Faculty of Dentistry website
  • Faculty of Dentistry Recruitment and Admissions Process
  • Orientation Sessions
  • Assessment of Students' Understanding and Application of PBL Skills
  • Tutor Recruitment and Training
  • Potential Use by Other Faculties
  • Public Education in the UBC Oral Health Centre Reception area
