| Project Summary | This project intends to invite university professors and academics with expertise on Iranian studies to hold a series of lectures in UBC. In order to increase UBC students' and faculty members' understanding of an important regional and strategic power in the Middle East, experts with a wide variety of interests and specializations would be invited to UBC. The Iranian Studies Student Association (ISSA), along with the Department of History with the cooperation of Simons Centre for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Research and the Political Science Student Association (PSSA), will sponsor six lectures and symposium during the second semester of the 2007-2008 academic year. Given the current fragile situation and the uncertain future of the Middle East and also, the increasing influence of Iran in that region, speakers will analyze the Iranian society - and the potential for change, from different angles. The speakers will include Political Scientists, Historians and International Lawyers from prominent universities around the continent. |
