Project Summary | The Alma Mater Society, UBC-V's student society, is the official body representing over 44,000 students. The AMS has traditionally played and continues to play an important role in improving engagement in student's academic experience, and helping to improve the quality of teaching and learning at UBC. Recently, we have recognized the need to take a more coordinated and strategic approach to initiatives that enhance and improve academic engagement. The AMS Centre for Academic Engagement will be an AMS Service, overseen by the Vice-President, Academic and University Affairs, that will coordinate, research and implement these initiatives. It will consist of three student positions that will:
The AMS will fund the initiatives and projects undertaken at the Centre, but we are looking for TLEF support to fund the three student positions. There are many pre-existing projects and services that the AMS already offers related to academic support and engagement. In addition to recommending or implementing new initiatives, the Centre will also either help refine and improve these pre-existing initiatives, offer support to the people responsible for these preexisting initiatives (in the case of our services like Tutoring of the Ombuds Office), or take over the coordination of these pre-existing initiatives (in the case of the Just Desserts Awards for example). |
