Project Summary

After years of exploratory measures during growth in size and complexity of the First-Year Calculus Workshop Program in Math 180 and 184 (referred to below as the “Workshop Program’ or ‘the workshops’), the program is now a massive undertaking administered by a team of experienced specialists, representing a concentration of expertise that is not permanent; most personnel are TAs or limited-term research fellows. Connecting the many team members each week and delivering well-constructed problem sets in a timely manner, both synchronized with the lectures and appropriate in length and difficulty, remain two significant challenges. For the workshops to mature into a sustainable, efficient program, we propose an administrative restructuring project that takes advantage of our existing assets. An additional Workshop Specialist will prepare, implement and connect a problem database, an administrative wiki and a workshop manual to solidify the program.
