Project Summary | The proposed project focuses on improving the directed studies program offered to undergraduate students in Psychology. By participating in this program students are given the opportunity to work directly with a faculty-mentor on a research project, giving them first-hand experience with how research is conducted in Psychology. The program helps students to develop a deeper appreciation for issues related to research methods and statistics. It also provides them with an opportunity to determine whether research is a career path they wish to pursue along with the skills and sources of recommendation required to pursue a career in research. The objectives of this project are 1) to increase consistency and further enhance students’ learning experiences by developing a seminar component to the course, 2) to develop more equitable outcome measures for evaluating students’ performance in the course and 3) to increase faculty support by creating incentives for faculty sponsors. |
