| Project Summary | The TLEF funding will support the first Immigrant Vancouver Ethnographic Field School (IVEFS), a collaboration between the Departments of Anthropology and Sociology at UBC. A wide range of undergraduate students, including international students with few mechanisms to engage with local communities, will have the opportunity to be immersed in all stages of research, from design, to data gathering, to analysis, to dissemination. The TLEF funding will enable student research training, but also foster on-going research and collaboration among students, faculty, community stakeholders and the broader public. The student research projects will be conducted at six Neighborhood Houses throughout Vancouver during an annual, intensive six-week summer field school. To ensure knowledge exchange, student research projects will form the crux of a website, with a clickable, cultural mapping of Vancouver as an increasingly global city and be presented at “community cafes” where students will have the opportunity to share their research findings in a public setting. |
