Project Summary | Despite the presence of old adults (OA) in our healthcare system, care of OAs continues to be a marginalized area of nursing practice. Past studies have demonstrated the importance of clinical experiences, and role modeling and clinical leadership among clinical instructors (CIs) to foster an interest in this area among students. Hence, a key factor in teaching about nursing care of OAs is the skill and knowledge of the Cl. The main objective of this project is to gain greater understanding of CIs’ knowledge and beliefs about nursing care of OA as a basis for developing a toolkit of effective clinical teaching strategies for this specialized area of nursing practice. We will accomplish this objective by conducting a survey with CIs and facilitating a workshop that will lead to the development of the toolkit. Student learning will also be evaluated as a key component of this project. |
