Project Summary | This curriculum development proposal activates the collaboration theme in Shaping UBC’s Next Century strategic plan, and responds directly to Nutrition Education for UBC Health Programs: Today and Tomorrow (May 2018, Environmental scan and needs assessment of nutrition education involving 485 UBC health students and 12 UBC health program administrators). This strategic collaboration between the Faculty of Land and Food Systems and Faculty of Dentistry pilots a technology-enhanced, peer-led, evidence-based blended nutrition education curriculum that meets the mandated nutrition-related competencies in the Dental Hygiene program. Dietetics and dental hygiene students are integral partners in developing the learning objectives and activities, assessment strategies, instructional videos using case studies drawn from real-world practice, and guiding scripts for analyzing the cases. Three short videos provide foundational nutrition content followed by didactic in-class content that critically analyzes nutrition-related dental hygiene cases. This model has potential to meet the needs of other UBC health programs reported in Nutrition Education for UBC Health Programs: Today and Tomorrow. |
