| Project Summary | Liberal democratic applied ethics is an experiment in subjecting our moral values and norms to reasoned, critical reflection and deliberation. CEE-Ethics will enhance applied ethics education in UBC classrooms by supporting applied ethics modules with technology and institutions for safe, pseudonymous generation and evaluation of reasons, based on our proven web-based N-Reason platform, enhanced for classroom use. For example, students can safely disagree with the common or "appropriate" line of reasoning, even one clearly favoured by the instructor. CEE-Ethics can bring together reasons contributed and evaluated by a class with those from the public. Optionally, we can provide real-time feedback for anonymous ethically structured decision making in the classroom using clickers and a safe way for researchers with ethical concerns — e.g. about the use of animals in research — to put them before students and the public. Finally, CEE-Ethics will support students experimenting on this process itself. |
