Project Summary

Background: The UBC Dietetics Major is a nationally accredited professional program in dietetics, the only one of its kind in British Columbia. Dietetics profession workforce studies indicate that professional roles are diversifying and workforce shortages are emerging. Consequently, new graduates are taking on increasingly varied and demanding professional practice roles within and beyond the health care system. Graduates of the Dietetics Major have not been formally surveyed since 1990; as a result, we have not assessed their demographic characteristics, career trajectories, satisfaction with teaching and learning, and perceptions about the contribution of the program to their professional preparedness.

Aims: The proposed project is aimed at informing the Dietetics Major curriculum with a comprehensive survey of recent graduates and the engagement of program stakeholders at a curriculum retreat to help shape the dietetics curriculum for the future.
