Project Summary

In the Faculty of Arts, the Coordinated Arts Program (CAP) provides an enriched educational experience by offering a cohort learning portal to first-year students, who take courses with a small community of like-minded peers in one of our research streams. Because these streams combine courses from the humanities, social sciences, and performing arts, we face particular challenges of coordination and collaboration. In our second program assessment (2010-11), our students highlighted these two challenges, and suggested ways to address them (copies of assessment available upon request). As a result, improving students’ and faculty’s opportunities for coordinated and collaborative learning has emerged as a central concern as we go forward. We therefore propose three interrelated strategies, all aimed at the same objective of enhancing coordination and collaboration: 1) new curriculum designs, 2) strengthened teaching practices, and 3) student engagement.
