Project Summary | Each year, approximately 300 Registered Dietitian preceptors provide more than 1300 weeks of field-based education and supervision to students in the UBC Dietetics Major, a nationally accredited professional program. Preceptors have profound influence on student learning experiences in practicum settings. To be effective in their role, preceptors require education on program-specific requirements as well as skills trainhig to become competent, confident educators who can foster strong preceptor-student relationships. Dietitian preceptors are located all over British Columbia and are busy professionals with variable schedules and teaming needs. Brief and engaging web-based educational segments could address teaching and learning needs of preceptors, as well as those of students preparing for practicum placements. This project involves application of adult learning principles to production and evaluation of web-based education segments for use by preceptors and students, and preparation of a sustainability plan to support future revisions, development and evaluation. |
