| Project Summary | The Faculty of Education’s successful international online Masters of Educational Technology (MET) program is developing a new graduate-level course (ETEC5XX) addressing leading and emerging potentials of mobile learning, with the course itself designed primarily for mobile devices and mobile learning scenarios. This is a pioneering first for UBC. Given the content, context and spirit of ETEC5XX, it seems appropriate and strategic to also deploy it openly for the active, ongoing benefit and contributions of UBC teachers, researchers, staff and students within a locally open online course (LOOC) framework. The core objective is to design a flexible learning space — M101 — where MET students and UBC community participants can learn and contribute together. Beyond the cooperative learning system, a key innovation will be the design and implementation of a scalable “badge” system providing M101 participants with formal, verifiable ‘accreditation’ for learning accomplishments. This is a first implementation of badge technologies at UBC. |
