Project Summary | Amongst UBC students in the biomedical sciences, Medical Genetics 421 (Genetics and Cell Biology of Cancer) is one of the most highly sought courses. Motivated by personal experience or interest in medicine, the class attracts top students with commitment to excellence and community service. The students will develop online resources for community education about cancer genetics. Working with mentors, the students will create guides about genetic mechanisms of cancer and emerging technologies for DNA sequencing. The work extends into the Summer, when a science artist will develop dynamic illustrations for the concepts described in the materials. The intern will help establish a process in which students will collaborate with cancer genetics classes globally to extend the resource into an open-access compendium of educational materials. The work builds on instructor expertise for the creation of award-winning open-access software and educational materials. |
