Project Summary | We propose to redesign section(s) of Physics 100, using MOOC content and other OER materials developed elsewhere as the basis for the course content. We term this approach ‘an open flip’, where the focus of instruction shifts from creating content to curating already available materials, and thus spending instructor time on design and delivery of classroom activities that are known to enhance student learning. Such an approach has begun to be piloted elsewhere (e.g. Stanford describes this approach as a 'distributed flipped class'), yet so far with only limited evaluation of student learning using this very different instructional approach. This project is well aligned with the goals of FL and the TLEF criteria, with an explicit focus on student learning and operating effectiveness (specifically, can we measure enhanced (or at least comparable) student learning using an instructional approach that is no more, if not less, resource intensive to deliver it). |
