| Project Summary | The UBC Students’ Global Health Initiative (GHI) is a student-driven project that will provide a comprehensive set of learning modules and materials within the broader framework of a complete global health curriculum. With Year 1 TLEF funds, we validated the effectiveness of our methodology for student involvement, mentorship, knowledge transfer and continuity. Year 2 used three components to increase our capacity and scope: 1) global health skill-building workshops; 2) student hands-on participation in global health projects and 3) engagement of students involved in 1 and 2 to promote awareness, achieve knowledge transfer and drive curriculum development. Year 3 expanded activities 1,2, and 3 and presented our consensus learning objectives and a proposal for developing a global health theme for undergraduate medicine to the Faculty of Medicine. Through committee and working group participation, GHI took a more active role in supporting the global health agenda both locally, within the UBC community, and internationally. In collaboration with the Division of Global Health, we designed a website and an international elective database which will increase accessibility to global health learning materials, activities, and projects for the wider UBC community. Year 4 will continue activities 1, 2, and 3 focusing on interdisciplinary collaboration and sharing. Work will continue with the Faculty of Medicine to establish a Global Health curriculum in conjunction with the undergraduate curriculum renewal process. Additionally, GHI will re-evaluate how it measures its learning outcomes through research and consulting. |
