Project Summary

UBC's mission statement states: "As responsible members of society, the graduates of UBC will ... acknowledge their obligations as global citizens, and strive to secure a sustainable and equitable future for all." The goal of this project is to move from the abstract concept of global citizenship to an established curriculum that can introduce students of any faculty to the concepts, opportunities, and obligations of global citizenship. The project, based on a successful pilot, is collaborative, involving USC students and faculty, local and international partners. It consists of three components: 1) a global health skill-building education series at UBC (open to all students and faculty), 2) global health project experience in Uganda, India and Honduras, and 3) knowledge transfer to other students and faculty as a platform for curriculum development. We believe that providing students with opportunities to participate in global projects early in their post-secondary education can lead to a life-long commitment to global citizenship.
