Project Summary

Background: Prior to September 2001, students could enter the Bachelor of Commerce program only in second and third year of university. UBC students would register in Arts or Science for their first year, and apply for the B.Comm program starting in second year. We have now initiated direct entry into the B.Comm program from secondary school. Consequently, up to this point we have had no first year Commerce program as part of the B.Comm. The objective of this project is to develop first year B.Comm program that will provide an enriching and stimulating first year, that fulfills the non-Commerce course requirements, and is integrated with the rest of the B.Comm program. The approach will included consultations with the business community that employs our graduates, researching first year programs at other four year business programs, and consultations with Commerce student groups. Our objective is to have a new first year program developed to start in September 2003.
