Project Summary

The objective of this project proposal is to a) fully integrate the UBC Mechanical Engineering Capstone Design Program into a national network of design engineering (COEN) established through NSERC and b) improve the relevance of the program through direct involvement of industrial engineering design consultants as technical advisors to students enrolled in the course. This proposal is one aspect of an overall review of the Capstone Design Program at Mechanical Engineering. The rational for the updating of the program is to ensure that students are served with the most relevant engineering design experience while enrolled at UBC. Development of a UBC node (website) will serve the Canadian Design Engineering Network (COEN) allowing UBC students access to similar nodes across Canada. In addition to providing students a wealth of design knowledge, the node will also facilitate communication between students, clients, supervisors and technical consultants.
