Project Summary

Develop a toolkit of resources to support the growing number of students and faculty who would like sustainability explicitly covered in their courses (discussed in more detail in the last section.) To meet this need, the following resources have been identified that would be developed through funding of this TLEF proposal:

  • Variety of materials to support a multi-pronged approach
  • List of UBC courses that incorporate sustainability, with a short description of how it is accomplished
  • Set of problems/examples/case studies related to sustainability that faculty could select from to use in their particular courses
  • Set of problem-centred sustainability modules that could be integrated into many courses
  • List of research projects at UBC that address sustainability with a short description of how it is related which could tie more research into teaching
  • 2-week teaching module that demonstrates how any course at UBC could be taught within the context of sustainability
  • TAG course for members of the UBC teaching community to learn how they might incorporate sustainability in there are
  • “Circles”, multi-disciplinary forums on specific issues related to sustainability (food scarcity, climate change, etc) to enable more collaboration and networking
  • Specific tools to support teachers who are not full-time faculty (such as doctors, dentists who teach UBC students)
  • Communications plan to ensure all faculty is aware that these tools are available to them
