Project Summary

This project is to pilot a new model of PBL tutorial process in the 2nd-year medical curriculum which would increase students' active participation, enhance their ownership of learning and contribute to the development of their professional communication skills. To achieve this, two out of three weekly tutorials will be conducted with the assistance of peer rather than tutor facilitation. To assure adherence to PBL principles and to monitor students' progress through the PBL cases, WebCT-based communication tools will be utilized, tutorials will be videotaped and weekly feedback sessions with the tutor will be conducted. The appropriateness and effectiveness of this approach will be evaluated and relevant resources will be developed and revised, as appropriate, with an objective of making this model available to all 2nd-year medical students in subsequent years.
