Project Summary

This project seeks to develop a digital game-based learning too, that will allow students to explore the issues associated with academic integrity by making choices within simulated situations based on real-life scenarios. The tutorial will feature three elements that will make It an effective learning tool: (a) the use of real-life scenarios for teaching how to avoid plagiarism (b) a discussion board where students can post questions about ethical issues related to plagiarism and academic integrity and (c) a visually stimulating layout and design based on a 'gaming' model of learning. The project would involve hiring students from the Writing Centre, School of Library, Archival and Information Studies (SLAIS), Computer Science and other departments who would provide input into the content and design of the tutorial. Faculty members from various departments would also be consulted to find out the key issues and concerns around academic integrity. Once developed, the Academic Integrity GameBased Tutorial could be customized for use by different groups, including graduate, TAs, international and ESL students, as well as applied to other topics.
