Project Summary

The two-year project, while having a research and development meta-structure, is built on the implementation of two pilot courses: the first (year 1) and EDUC 240: Issues in First Nations Education, one of the courses in the Native Indian Teacher Education Program (NITEP); the second (year 2) with LLEF 200: Language Development, the course supported by the Department of Language and Literacy Education (LLED) and focused on Aboriginal language revitalization. There are immediate and long-term benefits to the development of these tools and processes, as they are directly transferrable to other online courses for Aboriginal learners.

The project engages current research on Aboriginal learners and online learning, as well as work with the leading edge of learning technologies in this area, particularly the potential for synchronous audio and visual interactivity.
