Project Summary

In Psychology, there is a compelling connection between research and teaching and many students participate in various research activities during their senior years. We will introduce students much sooner to the world of psychological science by adding recurrent research seminars--led by graduate Teaching Assistants and limited to 25 students--to two of our largest and most fundamental lecture courses--Thinking Clearly About Psychology and Analysis of Behavioural Data (Psyc 217 and 218, respectively), both of which are required of BA psychology majors. This project focuses on (a) developing the format and contents of the seminars, (b) training the initial cadre of TAs how to use the prepared seminar materials and to engage their students in a wide array of hands-on research activities, (c) integrating the TA-led seminars with the instructor-led lectures into a seamless, academically sound whole, and (d) providing a continuity of oversight during the first two years of operation to ensure that our educational aims are being met or exceeded.
