Project Summary

The First Nations Studies Program (FNSP) proposes the development of a series of multi-media content modules on the histories and cultures of First Nations in British Columbia. Module themes include, for example, the history of the land issue in BC, the Indian Act, and residential schools. These modules, developed in consultation with First Nations communities and organizations, provide relevant and culturally sensitive content to Aboriginal and nonAboriginal learners, as well as the infrastructure necessary for students to fully engage in their studies and participate in current public debates. These modules draw on innovative interactive multi-media technologies, emphasize visual representation of historical processes affecting First Nations, and provide students rare access to community-based research. They will be used as a curricular resource in all FNSP courses. The modules will be housed on a website, ensuring greater accessibility to other courses at UBC with Aboriginal content, post-secondary institutions, and remote First Nations communities.
