Project Summary

With UBC’s TREK 2010 aiming to explore ways of developing closer relationships between UBC and the First Nations communities, the Aboriginal Strategic Plan promising stronger Aboriginal programming, and the South Campus Academic Plan providing long-term vision for the academic future of the UBC Farm, an exciting window of opportunity is open to integrate the current UBC Farm aboriginal programming with UBC student learning. This project will create a web-based platform featuring case studies to highlight UBC Farm Aboriginal initiatives for use in several courses offered by the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS). A key project goal is to maximize the long term educational impact of Aboriginal initiatives on the UBC Farm and LFS. This project will contribute to the mobilizing of traditional knowledge and contemporary practices related to sustainability and food security, provide engaging opportunities for students in inter-professional learning, and promote intercultural participation among the larger University community.
