Project Summary

A video funded by the UBC Faculty Certificate on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education program was created to connect the skill of clinically examining a dental patient to the structure and function of the twelve cranial nerves. We would like to engage second year dental students in a study to determine if this video, in an improved, interactive format, will enhance their learning. Specific assessments will be designed to help evaluate the effectiveness of the video. Volunteer dental students will be assessed before and after watching the video to determine if learning has indeed been enhanced. Approximately five months later, students will be assessed again to determine if the enhanced learning was sustained. We anticipate the students will implement the more thorough, systematic examination tehnique illustrated in the video in their subsequent clinical training and in their future dental practice.
