Project Summary

The Summer Student Research Program (SSRP) at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain valuable research experience by completing a 12-week basic science or clinical research project and participating in a 3-hours/week research education program consisting of student presentations, workshops, faculty lectures and a poster day.

In an effort to continue to support the development of an enhanced, multidisciplinary learning environment for students, this project proposes an assessment and re-design of the SSRP. A program re- design will include the creation of open access videos and resources allowing for more flexibility and access to the program workshops, a common theme in student feedback. The SSRP provides students with research knowledge and skills they can bring to their future career progression, from graduate school to careers in healthcare, academia, industry and beyond. This project and the SSRP align with the 2019 TLEF Priority Focus Area “Enhancing the scholarly communications skills of students”.
