Project Summary | The Faculty of Forestry’s Alex Fraser Research Forest (central interior) and Malcolm Knapp Research Forest (coast) provide students in forestry and natural sciences with opportunities for experiential, hands-on learning. Existing demonstration sites serve as a living laboratory where up to 600 students per year put theory into practice. The dynamic nature of forests requires that forward planning be in place to ensure demonstration sites remain viable overtime. We will create a plan for each forest with the aid of graduate and undergraduate students that will optimize the layout and implementation of new and existing forestry demonstration sites. These sites will be physically concentrated, easily accessible to large groups, and show a range of conditions with enduring value to teaching and learning. |
