Project Summary | The Project aims to broaden the scope of international opportunities for UBC Students. Through local and international collaboration and outreach on sustainability-focused programs, the project hopes to foster greater leadership, community engagement and research opportunities for students. The Project will be coordinated with UBC Solar, an interdisciplinary student-led team that allows students to learn hands-on about the potential and practical applications of solar technologies by building and racing a solar-powered vehicle. Existing leadership and peer mentoring opportunities within UBC Solar would be enhanced by the addition of international and research opportunities created through a partnership with the Chinese Central Academy for Fine Arts (CAFA). Discussions with CAFA have already taken place and there is significant interest in pursuing this partnership. A School Outreach Program, aimed at elementary and high-school students, is another significant component of the project and will ensure local community engagement through hands-on workshops. The programs and partnerships created will continue to provide opportunities for students in the long-term, well past the funding duration, in addition to gaining positive media attention. |
