Project Summary

Institutional (e.g. hospital) clerkships are core components of the professional training of UBC's pharmacy Entry-to-Practice (E2P) students, residents, and PharmD students. Expansion of these programs is placing demand on the supply of clerkships which necessitates reformulation of the learning models and creates opportunities to significantly enhance student learning. The UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is committed to leading the implementation of a new model for pharmacy student learning in institutions which aligns capacity for clerkships with E2P, Residency, and PharmD program demands for them; maximizes opportunities for enhanced student learning by being in a team context with peer-learners, more advances learners, and opportunities to teach/model/coach lower-tier learners; is sustainable; and maximizes opportunities to enhance patient care. We propose a comprehensive three-year project to address all stakeholder perspectives and system redesign issues required to develop and implement a enhanced student learning model for institutional clerkships which meets these objectives.
