Project Summary

This project continues the development of a application (app) as a learning aid for Landscape Architecture 316 (LARC 316): Trees and Shrubs in the Landscape.

LARC 316 introduces students to the characteristics and uses of ~175 trees, ~45 shrubs) common in the Vancouver area. The main challenge of the course is that no single reference work exists to provide comprehensive Vancouver-specific information, so students must rely on scattered information that may not be regionally-appropriate.

The app developed by this project is being programmed by two recent graduates from UBC computer science. The content and design for the app is being supplied by the project applicants and students from the UBC School of Landscape Architecture. Once completed, the app will provide students with a portable, expandable and customizable reference that will continue to be useful to the students in their future professional careers as landscape architects.
