Year 1: Summary

The Promoting Trans Literacies Workshop is a student-led initiative that promotes understanding, inclusion, and equity on the University of British Columbia’s campus by building knowledge capacity about gender diverse people and gender diversity issues. This workshop seeks to enhance the well being of people of all genders learning and working at the university, especially people who are trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and/or gender nonconforming. The workshop consists of case studies, small group discussions, and, when delivered to instructors and teaching assistants, syllabus analysis. The workshop’s learning objectives are: 1) Understanding what trans oppression looks like at all levels of education and work at the university; 2) Identifying how workshop participants can respond to trans-oppressive practices; and, 3) Providing participants with tools that help them move towards trans-equitable practices. People of all genders deserve equitable access and participation in learning and work environments. This workshop supports UBC’s commitment to equity and inclusion.
